This month’s kit makes a versatile gift box where the base and the lid are the same design, hence the pivot name. There are multiple ways that you can use this die set to create slight variations on the box, but for this step by step I kept it simple and stuck to how it’s supposed to go together (I think lol) although in my Un-Boxing video I show you how to give it a flip top lid instead :D You’ve got lots of options to decoration too as the rectangular panel included fits on the sides as well as the top and bottom, and there are some clever little decorative panels in there too (shown in step 8) that fill in the side design when the top and bottom are attached. Hope you found this construction useful! Can’t wait to see what you create with it :D Christine from CRaFTi PoTeNTiAl.
Step 1
To create the middle of the box, you will need two of the main rectangular panels, and one of each of the slanted decorative dies and backing panels. I used the Maroon card for the base box, and to make it a little more special I added some of the Crimson Velvet Mica Mist to all those pieces (the one from the kit is a mini one a full sized bottle is shown) then left them to dry.
Step 2
For the lid and similarly the base you will need all the pieces pictured above, again I sprayed the Maroon pieces with the Mica Mist, and to slightly tone down the pattern on the Umber Etching card whilst also adding some sparkle, I dabbed on a light layer of the Rich Cocoa Glimmer Paste (the one from the kit is a mini one a full sized pot is shown) and left everything to dry.
Step 3
You might also want to add a gift tag to the box, and I made mine double sided and used all the pieces pictured to make it. You even get the Pewter Grey Bakers Twine in the kit too! And there are multiple sentiments to fit inside the tag, a mixture of dies and stamps
Step 4
To make the center of the box, add 3mm red liner tape to both glue tabs, I also used a little bit of glue too, then simply pre crease your score lines and attach the 2 pieces together as shown, then repeat with the other glue tab to give you a rectangular tube.
Step 5
Glue all of your decorative panels together (intricate detail onto the Glimmer Paste pieces) then attach these to the main panels of the lid and base (both are identical)
Step 6
Match up a pair of each of the lid/base sides, making sure to attach them so that the smaller side is towards the glue tab on the main piece and the longer side is towards the large scalloped panel.
Step 7
Use the remaining glue tabs to form the sides of the lid/base lining up the cut edge with the fold of the glue tab as with any Tonic dimensional die. And remember you need 2 of these, one is the lid and one is the base.
Step 8
To get your slanted side panels in the perfect position on the sides of the box, place the lid and base onto the rectangular tube (making sure they're the opposite of one another so you have a large and small scalloped piece on each side of the box) then fit the appropriate slanted panel into the gap on the box side.
Step 9
For this box, I wanted to base to be solid, so I used Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive on the inside of the base walls, and red liner tape on the bottom perimeter of the rectangular tube and made sure they were securely stuck together.
Step 10
For a finishing touch, you also have a little corner die in the Kit’s die set, which allows you to create these faux metal corners for your box, I used 8 on mine and I cut them from the Glazed Chestnut card from the kit.
Step 11
Finally add your gift tag to the box, I decided to wrap some Pewter Grey twine around the lower third of the box 3 times, then I used a separate piece of twine to tie the tag onto the front of the box
